মাধ্যমিক বাংলা – বঙ্গানুবাদ প্রশ্ন ও উত্তর

আজকে আমরা এই আর্টিকেলে বঙ্গানুবাদ নিয়ে আলোচনা করব। বঙ্গানুবাদ বলতে বাংলা ভাষা থেকে অন্য ভাষায় অনুবাদ করাকে বোঝায়। এটি একটি জটিল প্রক্রিয়া যা শুধুমাত্র শব্দের অনুবাদ নয়, বরং দুটি ভাষার সংস্কৃতি ও ব্যাকরণের পার্থক্যকেও বিবেচনায় নেয়। বঙ্গানুবাদ মাধ্যমিক পরীক্ষার জন্য খুবই গুরুত্বপূর্ণ, এই সংলাপ রচনা গুলি মাধ্যমিক পরীক্ষার জন্য প্রস্তুত করে গেলে, তোমরা অবশই মাধ্যমিক পরীক্ষায় বঙ্গানুবাদ লিখে আস্তে পারবে।

“বঙ্গানুবাদ” বলতে বোঝা যায় বাংলাতে যে কোনো ভাষা থেকে অনুবাদ করা। এটি মাধ্যমিক পরীক্ষা থেকে শুরু হয়ে বিভিন্ন বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের স্নাতক এবং স্নাতকোত্তর স্তরের পাঠক্রমেও রয়েছে। এটি পরীক্ষায় আপেক্ষিকভাবে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ বিষয় হিসেবে প্রতিষ্ঠিত। বঙ্গানুবাদকরার জন্য ভালো ইংরেজি দখল থাকা প্রয়োজন, কারণ যার ইংরেজি শব্দার্থ অনেক ভালো থাকে সে তার ভালো অনুবাদ করতে পারে। এটি আরও উন্নত করার জন্য একটি শিল্পের মতো কাজ করা প্রয়োজন।

অনুবাদের দুটি ধরন আছে – আক্ষরিক অনুবাদ এবং ভাবানুবাদ। মাধ্যমিক পরীক্ষায় আক্ষরিক অনুবাদই কাম্য, তবে অনেক সময় রচনা আক্ষরিক অনুবাদ সম্ভব হয় না, সেক্ষেত্রে ভাবানুবাদ প্রয়োজন। আক্ষরিক অনুবাদে বাক্যের গঠন পরিবর্তন না করা উচিত, তবে যদি বাক্য সরল, জটিল, বা যৌগিক হয় তাহলে বাক্যের প্রকারভেদে অনুবাদ করা উচিত। অনুবাদে মূল রচনার ক্রিয়ার কাল, ভাব এবং অবস্থান যেন সংযুক্ত থাকে। অতএব, বঙ্গানুবাদ করার সময় সাধু গদ্যে অথবা চলিত গদ্যে কাজ করা উচিত। শেষ প্রবাদ বাক্যের আক্ষরিক অনুবাদ না করে ভাবানুবাদ করার শ্রেয়।

একটি ভাষায় প্রকাশিত কোনো বিষয়কে আর-একটি ভাষায় প্রকাশ করাকে বলা হয় অনুবাদ বা ভাষান্তর বা তরজমা। যে ভাষায় বিষয়টি প্রকাশিত, তাকে উৎস ভাষা বা Source Language বলা হয়, আর যে ভাষায় সেটি অনুবাদ করতে হচ্ছে তাকে উদ্দিষ্ট ভাষা বা Target Language বলে। মাধ্যমিক স্তরের শিক্ষার্থীদের অবশ্য কেবল ইংরেজি থেকে বাংলায় অনুবাদ করতেই দেওয়া হয়। তাই এখানে বঙ্গানুবাদের ক্ষেত্রে উৎস ভাষা ইংরেজি আর উদ্দিষ্ট ভাষা হল বাংলা।

বঙ্গানুবাদের দৃষ্টান্ত

Two thousand years ago the city of Rome was not only the strongest town in Italy, but was rapidly becoming the centre of a great empire. A few hundred years earlier, however, the Roman people often had to fight for their own safety.

অনুবাদ – দু-হাজার বছর আগে রোমনগরী যে শুধু ইটালির মধ্যে সবচেয়ে শক্তিশালী শহর ছিল, তা-ই নয়, বরং এটি দ্রুত একটি বিশাল সাম্রাজ্যের কেন্দ্রবিন্দু হয়ে উঠছিল। কয়েকশো বছর আগেও অবশ্য রোমের নাগরিকদের নিজেদের নিরাপত্তার জন্য প্রায়ই লড়াই করতে হত।

There was a village near a forest and in that forest there lived a wolf. The wolf killed and ate up a large number of sheep from the village. The villagers gave a boy some money and said to him, “Take the flocks of sheep to the grass fields outside the village. They will graze in the field and you will look after them. The wolf may come again. You must shout to us for help then.”

অনুবাদ – এক জঙ্গলের কাছে একটি গ্রাম ছিল এবং সেই জঙ্গলে থাকত এক নেকড়ে। নেকড়েটা গ্রামের প্রচুর ভেড়া মেরে খেয়েছিল। গ্রামবাসীরা তখন একটি ছেলেকে কিছু টাকা দিয়ে বলল, “গ্রামের বাইরের ঘাসজমিতে এই ভেড়ার পাল চরাতে নিয়ে যাও। মাঠে চরাবার সময় এদের দিকে খেয়াল রাখবে। নেকড়েটা আবার হামলা করতে পারে। সেক্ষেত্রে তুমি চিৎকার করে আমাদের সাহায্য চাইবে।”

Stealing is taking or keeping the property of another without the others permission. If your classmate leaves his fountain pen on the desk and you pocket it, you are stealing his property to which you have no right.

অনুবাদ – অন্যের অনুমতি ছাড়াই তার জিনিস নেওয়া অথবা কাছে রাখাকে চুরি করা বলে। যদি তোমার সহপাঠী তার ঝরনা কলমটি ডেস্কের ওপরে ফেলে যায়, আর তুমি সেটিকে পকেটস্থ কর, তাহলে তুমি অবশ্যই তার সম্পত্তি চুরি করছ, যা করার কোনোরকম অধিকার তোমার নেই।

Student life is the stage of preparation for future. This is the most important period of life. A student is young today. But he will be a man tomorrow. He has different duties. He should perform them well. As a student, his first duty is to study and learn. He should be careful to his lessons.

অনুবাদ – ছাত্রজীবন হল ভবিষ্যতের জন্য প্রস্তুতি নেওয়ার পর্যায়। এটি জীবনের সবচেয়ে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ সময়। একজন ছাত্র আজ তরুণ। কিন্তু আগামী দিনে সে একজন পরিপূর্ণ মানুষ হয়ে উঠবে। তার বিভিন্ন কর্তব্য রয়েছে। তাকে সেগুলি সুষ্ঠুভাবে পালন করতে হবে। ছাত্র হিসেবে তার প্রথম কর্তব্য হল পড়া ও শেখা। পড়াশোনার প্রতি তার যত্নশীল হওয়া উচিত।

One fine evening a young princess went out to take a walk by herself in a wood. In this wood there was a lake, by the side of which the princess sat down to rest. She had a golden ball in her hand, and this was the plaything she liked most. She was always throwing it up in the air and catching it as it fell.

অনুবাদ – এক সুন্দর সন্ধ্যাবেলায় এক তরুণী রাজকুমারী জঙ্গলের মধ্য দিয়ে হাঁটতে বেরিয়েছিলেন। সেই জঙ্গলের মধ্যে একটি হ্রদ ছিল, যার ধারে রাজকন্যা বিশ্রাম নিতে বসলেন। তাঁর হাতে ছিল একটি সোনার বল, সমস্ত খেলনার মধ্যে সেটাই রাজকুমারীর সবচেয়ে প্রিয় ছিল। সারাক্ষণ তিনি বলটাকে একবার শূন্যে ছুঁড়ে দিতেন, আবার যেই বলটা নীচের দিকে পড়ত অমনি সেটা লুফে নিতেন।

Jagadish Chandra Bose showed that there is no difference between the life of plants and animals. If we give the plants a blow they feel it and if we make them drink poison, they are affected by it like us.

অনুবাদ – জগদীশচন্দ্র বোস দেখিয়েছিলেন প্রাণীর এবং উদ্ভিদের জীবনের মধ্যে কোনো পার্থক্য নেই। আমরা যদি গাছকে আঘাত করি তাহলে তারা তা অনুভব করতে পারে। আবার, তাদের গোড়ায় বিষ ঢাললেও আমাদের মতোই তারা তাতে প্রভাবিত হয়।

Once two women, quarreling about the claim of a child, went to the judge for justice. The judge called the executioner and ordered, “Cut the child into two halves and give one half to each of the women.” One of the women, when she heard the order remained silent; but the other woman began to weep.

অনুবাদ – একবার দুই মহিলা একটি শিশুর অধিকার নিয়ে ঝগড়া করে ন্যায়বিচারের জন্য বিচারকের শরণাপন্ন হলেন। বিচারক জল্লাদকে ডেকে নির্দেশ দিলেন, “শিশুটিকে দু-খণ্ড করে কেটে অর্ধেকটা একজনকে আর বাকি অর্ধেকটা আর-একজনকে দাও।” মহিলা দুজনের একজন এই আদেশ শুনেও চুপ করে রইলেন, কিন্তু অন্যজন কাঁদতে শুরু করলেন।

Last Saturday was a memorable day in my life. I went to the river for taking my bath as usual. The bathing ghat was not crowded then. Only two boys were bathing in the river at the time. Suddenly one of them fell in deep water and he cried out for help. Hearing that I was puzzled for a few seconds.

অনুবাদ – গত শনিবারটা আমার জীবনের একটি স্মরণীয় দিন ছিল। বরাবরের মতোই সেদিনও আমি নদীতে স্নান করতে গিয়েছি। ঘাটে তখন খুব একটা ভিড় ছিল না। সে সময় মাত্র দুটো ছেলে নদীতে স্নান করছিল। হঠাৎ তাদের মধ্যে একজন গভীর জলে পড়ে গেল আর চিৎকার করে সাহায্য চাইতে লাগল। চিৎকার শুনে মুহূর্তের জন্য আমি হতভম্ব হয়ে গেলাম।

Once a wolf was much pained by a bone that stuck into his throat. He requested everyone to take off the bone and promised a handsome reward. But none ventured to take the risk. At last a crane came and drew out the bone.

অনুবাদ – একবার এক নেকড়ের গলায় একটা হাড় ফুটে যাওয়ায় সে খুব কষ্ট পাচ্ছিল। সে জনে জনে অনুরোধ করল যাতে কেউ এসে তার গলার হাড়টা বের করে দেয় আর এ কাজ যে করতে পারবে তাকে সে ভালোমতো পুরস্কৃত করবে বলে কথাও দিল। কিন্তু কেউই ঝুঁকি নিতে সাহস পেল না। শেষপর্যন্ত এক সারস এসে টেনে সেই হাড়টা বের করে দিল।

Rana Pratap was the ruler of Mewar. He fought against the Mughals for many years and lost many of the battles. He and his family had to spend several years in the jungles.

অনুবাদ – রানা প্রতাপ মেবারের শাসক ছিলেন। তিনি বহু বছর ধরে মোগলদের বিরুদ্ধে যুদ্ধ করেন এবং তাঁকে প্রচুর পরাজয় স্বীকার করতে হয়। অনেক বছর ধরে সপরিবারে তাঁকে জঙ্গলে কাটাতে হয়।

Once upon a time two poor woodcutters were going home through a great forest. It was winter and the night was terribly cold. The snow lay thick upon the ground and upon the branches of the trees, and the river was still and silent, for it was quite frozen. It was so cold that the animals and birds did not know what to think about it.

অনুবাদ – একবার দুই গরিব কাঠুরে এক বিশাল বনের মধ্য দিয়ে বাড়ি ফিরছিল। তখন শীতকাল আর সেই রাতে জাঁকিয়ে ঠান্ডা পড়েছিল। মাটির ওপরে, গাছের ডালে বরফের মোটা পরত পড়েছিল এবং নদীও জমে গিয়ে স্থির, নিশ্চুপ হয়ে গিয়েছিল। এমন শীত পড়েছিল যে, পশুপাখিরা ভেবেই পাচ্ছিল না কী করা যেতে পারে।

When Crusoe awake next morning, the sea was qulet and the sky was clear and blue. The ship lay less than half a mile from the shore. He wished he could reach the ship’s side as he had no food and clothing with him. So he swam out to it and got Into the ship’s cabin through a hole in the side.

অনুবাদ – যখন পরদিন সকালে ক্রুসোর ঘুম ভাঙল, তখন সমুদ্র শান্ত আর আকাশটাও পরিষ্কার, নীল হয়ে ছিল। জাহাজটা ছিল সমুদ্রতীর থেকে প্রায় আধ মাইল দূরে। সঙ্গে কোনোরকম খাবার বা পোশাক না থাকায় তিনি ঠিক করলেন জাহাজে যাবেন। সেইমতো তিনি সাঁতার কেটে জাহাজের কাছে পৌঁছোলেন এবং পাশের একটি গর্ত দিয়ে কেবিনে প্রবেশ করলেন।

Once two friends started on a travel. Their way lay through a forest. As they came half way through the forest, a bear was seen approaching slowly towards them. One of them climbed up a tree. The other did not know how to climb up a tree and lay flat on his face without breathing.

অনুবাদ – একবার দুইজন বন্ধু মিলে বেড়াতে বেরোল। তাদের পথ চলে গেছে এক জঙ্গলের ভিতর দিয়ে। অর্ধেক জঙ্গল পেরোতেই তাদের চোখে পড়ল, একটা ভালুক তাদের দিকে ধীর গতিতে এগিয়ে আসছে। দুই বন্ধুর একজন একটা গাছে উঠে পড়ল। অন্যজন গাছে চড়তে জানত না, সে নিঃশ্বাস বন্ধ করে মড়ার মতো পড়ে রইল।

অনুবাদ – তখন ছিল যুদ্ধের সময়। জর্জকে শহর থেকে দূরে দেশের বাড়িতে পাঠানো হয়েছিল দিদিমার সঙ্গে থাকতে। দিদিমার সঙ্গে থাকতে সে ভালোবাসত, কারণ, সেখানে তাঁর সুন্দর বাগানটায় প্রচুর ফল আর সবজি ফলে থাকত।

Sister Nivedita, known as Margaret Elizabeth Nobel in earlier life, was born in Ireland in 1867. After finishing her education, she settled down in England in the teaching profession. During this period, she happened to meet Swami Vivekananda at a London home.

অনুবাদ – ভগিনী নিবেদিতা, যিনি প্রথম জীবনে মার্গারেট এলিজাবেথ নোবেল নামে পরিচিতা ছিলেন, ১৮৬৭ খ্রিস্টাব্দে আয়ার্ল্যান্ডে জন্মগ্রহণ করেন। শিক্ষা সমাপ্ত করে তিনি ইংল্যান্ডে শিক্ষকতার পেশা গ্রহণ করে বসবাস করতে শুরু করেন। এই সময়ে লন্ডনের এক বাড়িতে স্বামী বিবেকানন্দের সঙ্গে তাঁর দেখা হয়।

Education has no end. So you should keep up your reading. Many young men close their books when they have taken their degrees and learn no more. Therefore they very soon forget all they ever learnt.

অনুবাদ – শিক্ষার কোনো শেষ নেই। সে কারণে তোমাদের অবশ্যই পড়াশোনা চালিয়ে যাওয়া উচিত। বহু তরুণ ডিগ্রি অর্জনের পরই বইপত্র বন্ধ করে দেয় এবং আর পড়াশোনা করে না। ফলে তারা যা শিখেছিল তা খুব শিগগির ভুলে যায়।

Man is an animal which is much weaker than other animals. He has not the strength of the elephant, not the speed of the horse. But he has a mind such as no other animal has.

অনুবাদ – মানুষ এমন এক প্রাণী যে অন্যান্য প্রাণীদের থেকে অনেক দুর্বল। তার হাতির মতো শক্তি নেই, ঘোড়ার মতো গতি নেই। কিন্তু তার মনন আছে যা অন্য কোনো প্রাণীর নেই।

Once, while riding on a tramcar in Berlin, he told the conductor that he hadn’t given him the right change. The conductor counted the change again and found it to be correct, so he handed it back to Einstein saying, “The trouble with you is, you don’t know figures.”

অনুবাদ – একবার, বার্লিনে একটা ট্রাম গাড়িতে চড়ে যাওয়ার সময় ট্রামের কনডাক্টরকে তিনি বলেন যে, কনডাক্টর তাঁকে খুচরো টাকা ঠিকঠাক ফেরত দেননি। কনডাক্টর আবার খুচরো গুনে দেখলেন যে তা ঠিকই আছে। তিনি আইনস্টাইনকে সেগুলি ফেরত দিয়ে বলেন, “সমস্যাটা আপনারই, আপনি সংখ্যা চেনেন না।”

অনুবাদ – সেই মান্ধাতার আমলের গ্রাম্য লাঙল নিয়ে মানিককে জমি চাষ করতে দেখা যায়। কিন্তু ওর কাজ খুব একটা এগোয় না। ওর দিকে তাকাও। দু-হাতে হাল ধরে উচ্চৈঃস্বরে যখন ও বলদগুলিকে বকতে থাকে, তখন ওর দু-গাল বেয়ে নামে ঘামের বন্যা।

The recluse (সন্ন্যাসী) in the fable kept a cat to keep off the rats, and then a cow to feed the cat with milk and a man to keep the cow and so on. My ambitions also grew like the family of the recluse.

অনুবাদ – গল্পের সন্ন্যাসী ইঁদুর তাড়াবার জন্য বেড়াল পুষেছিলেন, তারপর গোরু পুষেছিলেন বেড়ালকে দুধ খাওয়াবার প্রয়োজনে, আর-একটি লোক রেখেছিলেন গোরুকে দেখাশোনার জন্য এবং এইভাবেই চলছিল। ওই সন্ন্যাসীর সংসারের মতো আমার আকাঙ্ক্ষাগুলিও বেড়ে চলেছিল।

A Patriot is a man who loves his country, works for it, and is willing to fight and die for it. Every soldier is bound to do his duty, but the best soldiers do more than this. They risk their lives because they love the country.

অনুবাদ – দেশপ্রেমিক হলেন সেই ব্যক্তি, যিনি তাঁর দেশকে ভালোবাসেন, তার জন্য কাজ করেন এবং তার জন্য যুদ্ধ করতে ও প্রাণ দিতে প্রস্তুত থাকেন। প্রতিটি সৈনিক নিজের কাজের প্রতি দায়বদ্ধ, কিন্তু শ্রেষ্ঠ সৈনিক এর থেকেও কিছু বেশি করেন। তাঁরা তাঁদের জীবনের ঝুঁকি নেন, কেন-না তাঁরা দেশকে ভালোবাসেন।

Hercules was, in fact, the strongest man of whom the world has any record. Now-a-days when we wish to say that anyone is very, very powerful, we call his strength Herculean.

অনুবাদ – এতদিন অবধি যা জানা গেছে, তা থেকে বলা যেতে পারে যে, হারকিউলিসই পৃথিবীর সবচেয়ে বলশালী ব্যক্তি। একালে যখন আমরা কোনো ব্যক্তিকে অত্যন্ত বেশি শক্তিশালী বলতে চাই, তখন তার শক্তিকে আমরা হারকিউলীয় শক্তি বলে থাকি।

The Trojans refused to give up Helen. So the Greeks determined to take and burn the city. For many years they laid seize to it, but could not overcome it.

অনুবাদ – ট্রয়ের অধিবাসীরা হেলেনকে ফিরিয়ে দিতে অস্বীকার করল। ফলে গ্রিকরা স্থির করল যে তারা নগরীটি দখল করবে ও পুড়িয়ে দেবে। বহু বছর ধরে তারা এটিকে অবরোধ করে রইল, কিন্তু দখল করে নিতে পারল না।

One day Sir Isaac Newton went out of his room leaving on the table a heap of papers containing his long research on the theory of light. There was on the floor of the room lying his pet dog, Diamond.

অনুবাদ – আলোকতত্ত্ব সম্পর্কে তাঁর দীর্ঘ গবেষণার কাগজগুলোকে টেবিলের উপর স্তূপাকারে রেখে একদিন স্যার আইজাক নিউটন তাঁর ঘরের বাইরে গিয়েছিলেন। সেই ঘরের মেঝেতে শুয়েছিল তাঁর পোষা কুকুর, ডায়মন্ড।

The first great discovery that man probably made was that of fire. We light a fire now by a match. But of course matches are quite recent things. In olden times fires were made by rubbing two flints against each other till a spark came, and this spark set fire to a piece of dry straw or some other dry thing.

অনুবাদ – মানুষ সর্বপ্রথম যে বড়ো আবিষ্কারটি করেছিল সেটি হল সম্ভবত আগুন জ্বালানো। আমরা এখন দেশলাই দিয়ে আগুন জ্বালাই। কিন্তু দেশলাই অবশ্যই হাল আমলের জিনিস। প্রাচীনকালে দুটো চকমকি পাথর পরস্পর ঘষে আগুন জ্বালানো হত। পাথর দুটো ঘষা হত স্ফুলিঙ্গ না বেরোনো পর্যন্ত আর এই স্ফুলিঙ্গ একটি শুকনো খড়ের টুকরো বা অন্য কোনো শুকনো জিনিসে আগুন ধরাত।

অনুবাদ – যখন মার্কো পোলো পনেরো বছরের বালক তখন তাঁর বাবা চিন দেশে যাওয়ার সিদ্ধান্ত নেন। মার্কো খুব একটা শক্তিশালী ছিলেন না এবং সেইরকম দীর্ঘ যাত্রার পক্ষে খুবই দুর্বল ছিলেন। কিন্তু তাঁর সাহস ছিল এবং তাঁকে সঙ্গে নিয়ে যাওয়ার জন্য তিনি বাবাকে রাজি করিয়েছিলেন।

As You Like It’ is the name of a play written by William Shakespeare. He is the most famous dramatist in the world. He lived in England over 400 years ago, but his plays are still read and acted in every country where people understand English.

অনুবাদ – ‘অ্যাজ ইউ লাইক ইট’ উইলিয়াম শেকসপিয়রের লেখা একটি নাটকের নাম। বিশ্বের নাট্যকারদের মধ্যে তিনি সবচেয়ে বিখ্যাত। চারশো বছরেরও বেশি আগে তিনি ইংল্যান্ডে বাস করতেন, কিন্তু পৃথিবীর যেসব দেশের মানুষ ইংরেজি বোঝে, সেগুলির প্রত্যেকটিতে তাঁর নাটকগুলি এখনও পাঠ করা ও অভিনয় করা হয়ে থাকে।

We could not live at all without the sun. The sun gives us light and heat and life. Suppose the sun went out like a candle! What would happen? It would be always night.

অনুবাদ – সূর্য ছাড়া আমরা কোনোমতেই বাঁচতে পারি না। সূর্য আমাদের আলো, উত্তাপ ও জীবন দান করে। মনে করো, সূর্যটা যদি একটা মোমবাতির মতো নিভে যেত। তাহলে কী ঘটত? তখন সারাক্ষণই বিরাজ করত রাত্রি।

Thus the valley became a garden again. It had become a desert by cruelty and now it was regained by love. He began to dwell in the valley and the poor were never driven from his doors, for his farm was always full of corn. The river sprang from the mountain and rushed in all directions.

অনুবাদ – এইভাবে সেই উপত্যকা আবার উদ্যানে পরিণত হয়েছিল। এটি নিষ্ঠুরতার কারণে মরুভূমিতে পরিণত হয়েছিল। আর এখন ভালোবাসার মাধ্যমে তা আবার পুনরুজ্জীবিত হল। সে উপত্যকায় বসবাস শুরু করল এবং দরিদ্ররা কখনোই তার দরজা থেকে ফিরে যেত না। কারণ তার গোলা সবসময়ে ফসলে পরিপূর্ণ থাকত। পাহাড় থেকে উৎসারিত নদী দিকে দিকে ছুটে চলেছিল।

অনুবাদ – কোনো উত্তর ছিল না। সে তার বাবা-মাকে দেখার জন্য ঘুরে দাঁড়াল। তাঁরা তার সামনে ছিলেন না। সে অন্যদিকেও ঘুরে তাকাল। তাঁরা সেখানে ছিলেন না। সে পিছন ফিরল। তাঁদের চিহ্নমাত্রও ছিল না।

Words have a lot of power. They can help or hurt, bless or curse. Unkind words do a lot of harm. Kind words do a lot of good.

অনুবাদ – শব্দের শক্তি অসীম। তারা সহায়তাও করতে পারে, আঘাতও করতে পারে, আশীর্বাদও হতে পারে, অভিশাপও হতে পারে। নির্মম শব্দ অত্যন্ত ক্ষতি সাধন করে। সদয় শব্দ অশেষ কল্যাণকর।

Home is the first school where the child learns his first lessons. These first lessons are very important for the development of his mind. He sees, hears and begins to learn at home.

অনুবাদ – গৃহই প্রথম বিদ্যালয়, যেখানে একটি শিশু তার প্রথম পাঠ গ্রহণ করে। মনের বিকাশে এই প্রাথমিক পাঠগুলি অত্যন্ত জরুরি। সে দেখে, শোনে এবং বাড়িতেই শিখতে শুরু করে।

It is very difficult to get rid of bad habits. So we should be very careful that we do not get into bad habits. Every boy and girl should be diligent.

অনুনাদ – বদভ্যাসের হাত থেকে মুক্তি পাওয়া খুব মুশকিল। সুতরাং, আমরা যাতে কোনো বদভ্যাসের দ্বারা আক্রান্ত না হই, সেদিকে আমাদের সতর্ক হতে হবে। প্রতিটি বালক-বালিকাকে পরিশ্রমী হতে হবে।

Honesty is a great virtue. If you do not deceive others, if you do not tell a lie, if you are strictly and fair in your dealing with others, you are an honest man. Honesty is the best policy. An honest man is respected by all. Every man trusts an honest man. None can prosper in life if he is not honest.

The Ganga is the largest river of India. But it is more than a river-for centuries the Ganga has promoted trade, commerce, transport and has helped the economic, social, and cultural progress of the country.

অনুবাদ – গঙ্গা ভারতের দীর্ঘতম নদী। কিন্তু এটি একটি নদীমাত্র নয়-বহু শতকব্যাপী গঙ্গা ব্যাবসাবাণিজ্য ও পরিবহণের মাধ্যম হয়ে থেকেছে এবং দেশের অর্থনৈতিক, সামাজিক ও সাংস্কৃতিক উন্নয়নে সাহায্য করেছে।

The child shows the man as the morning shows the day. He is a budding flower. He is the citizen of tomorrow. He is the future bread earner of the family.

অনুবাদ – সকাল যেমন দিনের পূর্বাভাস দেয়, তেমনই একটি শিশু একজন ভাবী মানুষকে চিহ্নিত করে। সে একটি সদ্য ফোটা কুঁড়ি। সে আগামী দিনের নাগরিক। সে পরিবারের ভবিষ্যৎ অন্নসংস্থানকারী।

This is our Bengal, our native country. How beautiful, how lovely the country is! The blue sky is over it. In that sky the sun shines at dawn, stars twinkle in the evening and sometimes the moon smiles. Sometimes the sky becomes overcast with clouds; it thunders with a crash; it blows hard and it rains.

The Ganga rises in the Himalayas and flows into the Bay of Bengal. It is called the ‘Backbone of India’. If you think a little, you will see how important the river is. In flood time it fertilises the land lying on the other side.

A happy man is he who is master of himself. He is well protected by honest thought and armed with simple truth. He is happy because he is not carried away with rumours but trusts his own conscience. He is not jealous at one’s property. He is not sinful in conversation.

Good books are storehouses of knowledge and wisdom. Anyone who has the key can enter these storehouses and helps himself. What is the key? Simply the ability to read.
